How to skip stones
Next time you are near a flat stretch of water be on the lookout for good skipping stones. Anything that is smooth and flat will work, and about the size of the palm of your hand.
How to hold a skipping stone
Hold the stone between your thumb and index finger and flick towards the water. Get a good spin on the stone and it will jump and skip across the water. If you get low down and flick the stone at a gentle angle you will get more skips. If you are higher up you will get less but bigger bounces.
Skipping stones with kids
Here are few stone skipping competitions to try: highest jumper, most skips, biggest rock skipped. I have seen someone skip a brick once, that was impressive. You could even try to be Barnes Wallace and skip over objects to hit other things.
